‘Decrypting Crypto’ was a course sponsored by the U0fM OLLI center. I was one of three teachers invited to present.  The course was taught February 1 and 8, 2024.

My role was to compare digital currencies to other mediums of exchange and stores of value.  I presented the basic steps involved in any crypto currency transaction.  I also shared adoption models for estimating bitcoin network growth and prices.  Adoption models are essential to understand the demand and pricing of crypto coins.  Next, the course provided a top-down structure to classify all crypto coins and tokens, recognizing that over 23,000 tokens are now available   Finally, I directed attention away from bitcoin ownership to focus on performance data for blockchain technology stocks.  The last section also included data on the impact of crypto currencies and blockchain stocks on portfolio risk and return. A key question to answer was “What is the right number of bitcoins to own given different risk appetites?”
